About the position

The Human Resources Analyst position is an intermediate level role within the City of St. Petersburg's Police Department, specifically in the Background Investigation Unit. This role involves managing various aspects of sworn and civilian police employment, including applicant processing, background investigations, and hiring. The analyst will be responsible for maintaining candidate and employee records, coordinating scheduling activities, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies. The position requires effective communication and the ability to interpret city policies and employment laws.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain candidate and employee records in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate scheduling activities, including medical examinations for applicants.
  • Review questionnaires and applicant files to determine qualifications for employment.
  • Provide support services to supervisors and managers within the department.
  • Utilize HRMS software for troubleshooting, maintenance, data entry, and data validation.
  • Interpret and communicate City policies, Union contracts, and employment laws effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or a high school diploma/GED with considerable progressive human resources experience.
  • Prior experience in an office environment performing human resources-related duties.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with clear communication abilities, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to independently plan and schedule time to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience in analyzing and resolving technical and administrative problems.
  • Prior experience in customer service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Human Resources, especially with pre-employment background investigations.
  • Proficiency in HRMS systems, preferably Oracle eBusiness Suite.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining processes and procedures.
