In this role, the Judicial Assistant will oversee employee work schedules, process employee concerns, and assist with performance appraisals. They will also be responsible for organizing and prioritizing work activities to meet court objectives, ensuring that staff members have the necessary resources to complete their tasks. The Judicial Assistant will manage the daily operations of the judge's office, facilitating proper administration of court activities and assisting with various courtroom proceedings as needed. Additionally, the Judicial Assistant will maintain membership dues and continuing education activities, ensuring compliance with judicial and legal requirements. They will handle personnel and payroll duties for assigned staff, serve as a liaison to human resources, and monitor the office budget, ensuring that all expenditures comply with the approved budget. This position requires a proactive approach to communication, as the Judicial Assistant will provide information regarding court calendars and respond to inquiries from the public and other agencies.

Responsibilities

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage.

Processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate.

Assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; acts as a liaison between employees and management.

Organizes, prioritizes, assigns, and/or coordinates work; ensures that staff members have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work.

Manages daily operations of assigned judge's office to facilitate proper administration of court.

Coordinates the judge's schedule; creates, maintains and distributes calendar; verifies holidays and includes trials, motions and hearings.

Prepares and mails notices for calendars to all involved parties; interacts with parties regarding scheduling issues/conflicts.

Maintains membership dues, organization affiliations, and continuing education activities; reviews requirements for compliance.

Conducts research and makes training, travel and lodging arrangements; reviews invoices and submits payment vouchers.

Performs personnel and payroll duties for assigned staff; serves as a liaison to human resources and payroll departments.

Monitors and implements office budget; administers purchasing processes and payments for equipment, supplies, maintenance, and judicial resources.

Acts as liaison between judge and attorneys, staff, litigants, other agencies, and the general public.

Requirements

Associate's Degree in Business Administration or a related field required.

Two years of office management experience in a legal setting.

Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
