About the position

Under close supervision, performs basic maintenance and repair work to parks facilities, and grounds; performs related duties, as assigned. Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Plant, water, weed, trim, renovate, and fertilize lawns, shrubs, trees, and flower beds. Spade and otherwise cultivate ground around plants and shrubs, including mixing and applying fertilizers. Prepare ball fields, operate hedgers, blowers, and other related equipment for grounds maintenance. Perform weed abatement and remove weeds and trash. Assist in the installation and/or repair of irrigation systems. Open and close park facilities, clean and maintain facilities. Secure City facilities and alarm systems. Remove graffiti from park structures and amenities. Repair damaged benches or trash containers and clean sidewalks and picnic areas. Report noted repairs of facilities or equipment to supervisory staff. Perform light building maintenance including basic plumbing and electrical repairs. Perform general construction projects. Paint interior and exterior areas. Maintain maintenance records. Safely operate City vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma OR GED equivalent AND 6 months of landscape maintenance experience OR grounds, construction, facilities, or related experience.
  • Must possess a valid California class \"C\" driver's license upon hire and maintain throughout the length of employment with the City of Victorville.
  • Knowledge of Landscape maintenance and repair practices and methods.
  • Knowledge of Basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical maintenance and repair methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of Basic irrigation systems maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of Employee safety practices.
  • Knowledge of Herbicides and pesticide application procedures.
  • Knowledge of Plants and trees including tree removal methods.
  • Knowledge of Operation of motorized construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles.
  • Skill in Providing efficient customer service and communicating clearly and objectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in Organizing with the ability to prioritize work and exercise independent judgment, wisdom, common sense, and initiative.
  • Skill in Thoroughly carrying out oral and written instructions.
