The salary for this position ranges from $15 to $18 per hour.

Job Responsibilities

We are seeking a student assistant to work in our Non-Destructive Testing lab. The successful candidate will perform non-destructive testing on materials, components, and structures according to specific codes and procedures or the instructions given by the lab manager.

Evaluating test results and operating and maintaining testing equipment and tools including scanners, ultrasonic equipment, X-ray equipment, shearography equipment, and thermography equipment are also key responsibilities of this role.

The ideal candidate should be able to design or learn how to design their own stands and/or jigs that may be needed to perform a specific test.

Maintaining a safe work environment is essential for this position.

In addition, the successful candidate will provide technical support to engineers and anyone else who may need help understanding results.

Collaboration with other NDT labs as well as technicians to help with the interpretation of results is also required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is the minimum educational requirement for this position.

Currently enrolled in an NDT program at WSU Tech or Cowley County Community College or previously finished with the program looking for an OJT opportunity is highly recommended.

Classroom UT1, UT2 classes, and X-ray with radiation safety already completed is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently but also in a team environment are highly desirable.

Good communication skills, both verbal and written, strong public speaking skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint or ability to learn are also preferred qualities.
