lk about design thinking and push the boundaries of what is possible.

About This Role

We’re looking for a systems-minded, product-focused designer to work on our Design System elements, components, patterns, and guidelines. In this role, you’ll:

Continuously explore design language elements that can be modernized, including typography, color, iconography, data visualization, motion, and sound

Collaborate with other teams to help them translate the new design language into a modernized component library in both Figma and React code

Design concepts and flows for themes that provide direction for the product experience and the design system

Lead component and pattern related projects that drive cohesion across our product

Design scalable, usable, accessible, and high-quality components, and patterns

Create and maintain clear, consumable documentation and guidance in Figma and on our website

Work with designers across the organization to understand use cases and requirements

Conduct user testing and apply customer insights into intentional, meaningful, iterative design improvements with researchers

Help maintain figma libraries as this is a shared responsibility across the entire team

Prioritize and align on projects that are most essential and critical to the outcomes we aim to achieve as a team

Partner closely with engineering to weigh tradeoffs, make decisions, and ensure quality implementation

Communicate clearly for diverse audiences and colleagues to create connections and foster shared understanding, accountability, and goals

Stay curious and in the mode of constantly learning which includes proactive skills development and growth opportunities

What types of problems will you work on?

Our products support a wide variety of use cases across different types of customers (Marketing, Sales, Service, Ops, etc). We need to design components that account for flexibility but remain opinionated. A key challenge will be boiling down complexity into simple ideas with consumable guidance.

We are committed to our foundational components adhering to our accessibility standards. There are multiple big areas to address here starting with color contrast.

This team needs to have strong opinions, loosely held. They need to make hard decisions and thoughtful tradeoffs quickly, visibly, and with rigor. Finding the right model for governance, collaboration, and contribution will ensure adoption and adherence to the system.

Our products will be going through a transformation and require a high quality bar for consistency and implementation of new design language elements. This team is responsible for ensuring that this can happen across all the entire HubSpot platform.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

Has a portfolio of work that highlights complex design challenges that were solved with strategic UX, interaction, and strong visual design skills

Has very strong visual and interaction design skills. You have examples of going deep into the details of UI decisions for things like color, grids, patterns, accessibility, or usability. You understand which modern UI trends add value and which are just a fad.

Thinks in systems. You have examples where you’ve applied analytical thinking (breaking things down into smaller pieces) and synthetic thinking (seeing the bigger picture trends amongst the pieces)

Has experience with high-quality component development—from component architecture, building components, token strategy, and documentation to support

Can elevate design standards with high-quality execution of design elements—from typography, color, and iconography with serious attention to every detail

Easily can prioritize your time and work based on impact and results. You’ve identified what work to do based on goals or a prioritization framework. You’ve driven projects from start to finish with clear expectations and on time

Can collaborate cross-functionally with all teams and disciplines, especially with engineering partners by fostering healthy partnerships and driving alignment

One more thing you should know…

There’s a lot of research showing how marginalized groups of people may not apply for jobs unless they meet 100% (or more!) of the qualifications. We also know that many UX folks come from backgrounds with different experiences that might not seem “standard”—and that’s okay! We really value people who bring unique perspectives and add new knowledge to our team.

But you might not feel like you “check all the boxes” as you read this job post. We get it. And we feel these things ourselves, too. But we hope you’ll apply anyway because we’ll take great care in working with you.

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?
