ABOUT CIEL POWER

Ciel Power is seeking an experienced, BPI-certified Residential Home Energy Auditor to join our award-winning New Jersey home-performance team.

This is an immediate opening with an established calendar of scheduled home energy audits. We are looking for a knowledgeable, dependable professional who can move quickly through onboarding, work independently in the field, and deliver an exceptional experience to New Jersey homeowners.

Since 2010, Ciel Power has completed more than 5,000 home energy audits throughout northern and central New Jersey. Ciel is a four-time ENERGY STAR® Contractor of the Year and has been recognized as a PSE&G Top 10 energy-efficiency contractor.

This position combines technical building diagnostics, energy modeling, homeowner education, and consultative recommendations. You will help homeowners understand why their homes are uncomfortable, inefficient, or potentially unsafe—and develop practical scopes of work designed to solve those problems.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Ciel Power offers a compensation package designed to attract and retain experienced home-performance professionals:

  • Base salary of $70,000–$90,000 per year, based on experience, active certifications, and ability to work independently
  • $5,000 sign-on bonus for qualified external hires
  • Sign-on bonus paid in installments during the first six months, subject to the terms of the written offer

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a Residential Home Energy Auditor, you will:

  • Conduct comprehensive residential home energy audits throughout northern and central New Jersey
  • Evaluate building-envelope conditions, insulation levels, air leakage, HVAC equipment, domestic hot-water systems, ventilation, and related building systems
  • Perform blower-door testing, combustion-safety testing, CAZ testing, draft testing, carbon-monoxide testing, and other required health-and-safety procedures
  • Use infrared imaging and other diagnostic equipment to identify hidden comfort and efficiency problems
  • Collect accurate field data and complete required energy modeling
  • Identify the root causes of comfort, safety, indoor-air-quality, and energy-consumption problems
  • Develop detailed scopes of work and prioritized recommendations for each homeowner
  • Explain findings, recommended improvements, available incentives, and next steps in clear, understandable language
  • Help homeowners make informed decisions about insulation, air sealing, HVAC, water heating, and other home-performance improvements
  • Complete reports, documentation, photographs, and program submissions accurately and on time
  • Maintain organized customer records and communicate effectively with Ciel’s administrative, production, and quality-assurance teams
  • Maintain company-provided diagnostic equipment, technology, and vehicle
  • Follow BPI standards, applicable utility-program requirements, company procedures, and all health-and-safety protocols
  • Perform other related responsibilities as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must have:

  • A current BPI Building Analyst Professional certification
  • At least one year of experience conducting residential energy audits or comprehensive home-performance assessments; two or more years strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency operating a blower door
  • Demonstrated proficiency performing combustion-safety and CAZ testing
  • Working knowledge of forced-air distribution, heating and cooling systems, domestic hot-water systems, and residential ventilation
  • Experience with residential energy modeling and audit-report preparation
  • Strong understanding of building science, air movement, heat transfer, moisture, insulation, air sealing, and residential construction
  • Ability to develop accurate, technically appropriate scopes of work
  • Strong customer-service, presentation, and homeowner-education skills
  • Ability to explain technical information in clear, non-technical language
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, documentation, and follow-through skills
  • Comfort using mobile applications, laptops, CRM systems, energy-modeling software, and digital reporting tools
  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor-vehicle record
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following experience or credentials are especially valuable:

  • BPI Home Energy Professional Energy Auditor certification
  • BPI Healthy Home Evaluator, Quality Control Inspector, Heating Professional, or AC/Heat Pump certification
  • Experience working within New Jersey utility-sponsored residential energy-efficiency programs
  • Experience with New Jersey Whole Home Energy Solutions or comparable home-performance programs
  • Residential HVAC, insulation, air-sealing, weatherization, construction, remodeling, or home-inspection experience
  • Experience developing retrofit recommendations and helping homeowners move from assessment to implementation
  • Consultative sales or project-development experience
  • Familiarity with utility incentives, rebate programs, and energy-efficiency financing

PHYSICAL AND FIELD REQUIREMENTS

This is an active, field-based position. With or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to:

  • Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Climb stairs and ladders
  • Bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, and reach
  • Enter and work in attics, basements, crawlspaces, mechanical rooms, and other confined residential areas
  • Work in environments that may be hot, cold, dusty, damp, or otherwise physically demanding
  • Safely transport, set up, operate, and maintain diagnostic equipment
  • Travel daily between residential appointments throughout the assigned territory

The right person for this role is technically capable, highly organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently in customers’ homes.

You should be able to establish trust quickly, conduct a disciplined and technically accurate assessment, identify the causes of a home’s problems, and present recommendations professionally. This is not a high-pressure sales position, but success requires confidence in helping homeowners understand and act on appropriate recommendations.
